WELCOME TO JIB SET
everyone’s sailing club!
Peter Derviller, Commodore For 20 years, a fleet of Cal 20s with striking red foresails was a common sight on Vancouver's English Bay. These were the sails of the top sailing organization in Canada - THE JIB SET SAILING SCHOOL. Founded in 1968 from the brilliant vision of Les Alfreds, it was a true sailing community that fostered mentoring, seamanship and fun.

I am honoured to be invited to serve as the first Commodore of the new Jib Set Sailing Club. As founding members, we are carrying on the Les Alfreds’ tradition and the legacy of his venerable successor, Janet Stamper. Their vision was to make sailing accessible to everyone. Our goal is to re-ignite their vision and to encourage the creation of a network of community-based Jib Set sailing clubs throughout North America.

Les’ and Janet’s dream is still alive and I am confident that every time we unfurl those red foresails, we will move a step closer to restoring the Jib Set to its former prominence in the sailing world. Our objective today, as it was back in 1968, is for our members to fully experience the sport, art, science and above all, the sheer fun of sailing.

I look forward to sailing with you.
